HOW TO...
Sew a Button
There are two types of buttons: sew-through and shank buttons
Sew-through
1 Knot the thread and make a small stitch in the place you want the button to sit with the knot at the back of the fabric.
2 Thread your needle in and out of the button holes four times.
3 Wind the thread securely around the threads under the button and above the fabric.
4 Thread the needle through this loop knot at the back of the fabric.
5 Pull the thread tight.
6 Cut off any excess thread.

Shank
1 Knot the thread and make a stitch in the place you want the button to sit, with the knot on the underside of the fabric.
2 Place the button at right angles to the fabric.
3 Stitch through the loop on the shank button then through and the garment several times.
4 Pull the needle through the fabric one last time and make a knot.
5 Pull the thread firmly to tighten the knot.
6 Cut away any excess thread.
