Backstitch

Good for making strong seams and finishing off a line of stitches.

Here's how

1 Knot the thread and pull the needle through the fabric until the knot sits on the wrong side of the fabric.

2 Make a small stitch back to the wrong side of the material.

3 In the opposite direction, make a small stitch.

4 You are now back on the wrong side of the fabric.

5 In the opposite direction make a double length stitch.

6 The needle will emerge a stitch's length in front of the previous one.

7, 8, 9 Repeat step 3 and then repeat this stitch for as long as desired.

10 To fasten off don't pull through on your last stitch, leaving a small loop.

11 Push the needle through this loop and pull tight.

12 Cut away any excess thread.
