Thrifty Stitchers
The Thrifty Stitchers are a network of professional theatrical costumiers led by Claire-Louise and Alex who met whilst working on the musical ‘Scrooge’ in London’s West end many years ago.They are passionate about costumes, clothing, cushions & all things fabric! "We just love making beautiful things - sometimes it is a stage costume, sometimes it’s a beautiful interior, and sometimes it’s just resurrecting our favourite jeans."

Our half day beginners classes will next be held on- March 6th, and March 20th.
A little info about the class:
* Begin to use a sewing machine - wind on a bobbin, thread the machine, and learn to start sewing forward in straight lines, and then turning a corner.
* Sew simple seams.
* Find out about simple seam finishes.
* Mark up your choice of fabric from our selection & cut it out using a simple pattern.
* Put together simple cushion, take away not only your finished project, but the pattern so you can make again at home
All tools and materials included, just bring yourself!
Cost £45
Our starting from scratch beginners day will next be held on- March 7th & March 21st
A little info about the class:
Threading needles, and using simple hand sewing stitches to make a fabric rosette brooch
* Cover a button, and sew on different types of buttons.
* Begin to use a sewing machine- wind on a bobbin, thread the machine, and learn to start sewing forward in straight lines, and then turning a corner.
* Sew simple seams.
* Find out about simple seam finishes.
* Mark up your choice of fabric from our selection & cut it out using a simple pattern.
* Put together either a simple shopper bag or a simple cushion, and take away not only your finished project, but the pattern so you can make again at home
* Learn lots of handy tips and tricks of the trade from professional sewers.
All tools and materials included, just bring yourself!
Tea, Coffee and light snacks provided, but please do bring a sandwich for lunch
11 am – 5.30 pm-arrive early as session starts promptly!
Cost £80-(only 6 places per class)
We also run a day focusing on teaching alterations.

Do you really want to learn how to do professional alterations?
Got a favourite garment that has seen better days? Come and learn how to make a copy!
This course is a full day working on your own projects.
* Learn new techniques like shorten/letting down hems, taking in/letting out, inserting zips,piping and anything else that you need to get you sewing.
* Suitable for any level.
* You will need to bring along 2-4 projects to work on, as this session doesn’t include materials.
* Bring one item to be shortened, or taken in. This day isn’t suitable for working on knitted garments
Cost £60 for a full day, £35 for a half day
