Make a personal fabric keep-sake to give to someone special. Using embroidery stitches and patchwork, create your own stitched messages or express an emotion through cloth and stitch, to share with another person. Your textile token can be sewn up into a lavender pillow, to create a comforting object (Lavender will be provided.) Patchwork templates will also be supplied, but this session will be tailored to each individuals expression.
If you have personal fabrics that hold sentimental value, please bring these along to this emotionally led session, other fabrics and materials are supplied.

Use this session as an opportunity to go through your wardrobe and pull out any garments in need of repair, love and attention or a new look! Bring them along and Barley Massey will show you simple techniques in how to Darn it! Patch It! and customise it! If you don't have any garments to bring then you can create a series of samples for future reference. There will be a selection of darning wools, threads and materials available and every participant gets one of Barley's mending kits to take home.

Affordability and accessibility are values we hold dear - at the 'MAKE IT LAST' stall you can use our resources to revive old garments for free, sewing buttons and fixing holes! Our bargain bins mean you can also rummage and save! Delicious food & drink is always available, freshly made in the New Gallery London kitchen.

DIY Couture - Fabrications

Come along for a demonstration showing you just how simple it is to make your very own cloak. If you are slightly intimidated by sewing patterns but keen to start sewing your own clothes, Rosie from DIYcouture will be walking you through the basic steps it takes to create a cloak exactly the way you want it. From measuring up your body, making the pattern, putting the pieces together and finishing.
Making your own cloak allows you to step away from the high street and exercise your choice in fabric, garment length and fastening. Rosie will show you how to make a collar and a hood so that your cloak can be a cosy winter warmer or a smart, springtime top layer.

Learn the basics - how to cast on, Knit + Purl stitch, introducing a new colour and casting off. If you are an improver we can also show you combinations of knit + purl stitches to create different textures.
This session will be run by Fabrications' Barley Massey. If you attended the January session or a previous beginners class we can show you more!
